Frequently asked questions

What kind of issues can we work on?

Therapy sessions may focus on issues such as:

  • Understanding your self and soul purpose

  • Developing intuition and working with your energy bodies

  • Anxiety and mood disorders

  • Depression

  • Grief and loss

  • Workplace stress and bullying

  • Relationship concerns

  • Chronic illness and physical health issues

  • Sleep issues

  • Clinical consultation and supervision (for workers in the counselling and human services fields)

What can I expect in my first session?

If this is your first therapy experience, congratulations for embracing the courage to change! A first session involves finding out who you are and what brings you to therapy. We will set some intentions for what you want to work on and develop strategies to get you there.

You will need to complete some paperwork prior to your first appointment.

I am nervous about talking to someone, What if I don’t know what to say?

It is really normal to feel uncertain about opening up about your life, dreams, hopes and fears - we rarely experience opportunities to share our life in deep ways with others. Remember that it is my job to support you to tell your story. Your therapy may be the adventure that connects you with the best version of you. This is often a version that may have been hidden from the world!

What do I bring to my first session?

If you have a referral from your GP or Psychiatrist (known as a mental health care plan) you will need to send this to me prior to our first session. This will ensure that we can complete the Medicare rebate online. There is an out of pocket fee for sessions and this will be explained when we schedule your first appointment.

What is the practice policy on cancellations or not turning up for my appointment?

I respect that your time is valuable, and mine is too. Your session time is carved out in my calendar and set aside just for you. When you commit your time and finances to your wellbeing, you are likely to experience quicker growth and positive change. It is for this reason that cancellations with less than 24 hours notice or non-attendance, attract a full cancellation fee.

How many sessions will I need?

This all depends on what brings you to therapy. I want to support you in a way that suits you best and for you to feel like you are noticing improvements. Some people may feel like they only need a handful of sessions, others want to spend more time getting to the heart of what has been troubling them and heal at the deepest levels. Just like we have a car serviced, most people start to feel better and choose to have a monthly ‘top up’ to keep wellbeing as a priority. One client described it best; ‘if the football team is playing well, you don’t sack the coach!’

What therapy models do I use?

I use a combination of therapies including somatic (working with the body) oriented, functional analytical psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural, narrative, EMDR, brief solution focused and mindfulness based approaches. There is no evidence that any one therapy works better than any other. So we will tailor the therapy just for you.
